The Healthy Futures water kit has been out and about around Wellington - here are some photos...
In February, on a sunny day at Cigna Round the Bays, we gave out litres of refreshing, icy, fruit-infused water to lots of hot competitors and their families. It was great to hear stories from many of you about positive changes you’re making in your communities. Congratulations to Sport Wellington for ensuring that all competitors finished with the right stuff - a bottle of water and a banana! See more on our blog
At Creekfest in Porirua, the locals braved the weather to listen to Stan Walker playing in the driving rain. Thanks goodness we had a tent that day! Here we are taking shelter from the pouring rain with the Capital & Coast District Health Board (CCDHB) Diabetes and Renal teams. We surveyed visitors to our stall on where they thought water fountains with bottle refilling stations should be installed in Porirua City. Porirua residents loved the idea and have given us their top picks for locations of new water fountains. This information has helped form our submission to Porirua City Council – there's more on this here and we’ll update you on progress in our next newsletter.
In March, we headed out to Avalon Park Expo - a showcase of cool sports and activities happening in the Hutt Valley. The terrible weather forced everyone inside to the wonderful new Walter Nash stadium. Because their planned activities were cancelled, some Avalon Intermediate students took over our stand for us and showed their mates how much sugar is in the drinks they usually choose. Thanks girls for your awesome mahi!
As well as the big events, here’s just a few of the places water stands have been run recently:
- Evans Bay Intermediate sports day
- Cricket Wellington prizegiving
- Onslow Junior Cricket Club
- Brooklyn Junior Cricket Club prize givings
- Shift Challenge
- Wellington Ballet NZ dance week celebrations
The Water kit has been at lots of school fairs too including:
- St Francis de Sales
- Ngaio School
- Karori West Normal
- Lyall Bay School
Top work to everyone that ran the stands and thanks for the photos you sent through – it’s great to see the movement spreading!
Our water kit has now got so popular that we’ve had a re-think on how best to support clubs and schools in this area. Look out for an update in our next newsletter.
