Community Health Promotion
Healthy Futures attends many health promotion events with the aim of raising awareness of the:
- long term implications of obesity and type 2 diabetes
- factors that are contributing to the increase of these conditions in New Zealanders
- harmful effects of sugary beverages
- healthy choices that are consistent with the New Zealand nutrition and physical activity guidelines
At these events, we help individuals to determine their risk of developing type 2 diabetes and provide information and advice on how to lower this. We also work with sports clubs, early childhood education centres and other community organisations.
Events we've attended include:
- Walk to Work Day
- Newtown Festival
- Cigna Around the Bays
- Diabetes Awareness Week
- Avalon Park Expo
At community events we'll often have our Healthy Futures Water Kit with us - these are now available for school, sport and community groups to purchase. If you're out of Wellington, or you'd just like to create your own kit, we've created a simple guide showing you how easy it is to set up your very own water kit.
